Sue Hopwell has worked for Springfield care home for the past 14 years, and in that time Sue has progressed from carer to promotion to Assistant Deputy Manager.Sue’s first contact with Business Advice Direct was by way of their telesales team calling to ask if she would meet to discuss training needs. An appointment was made and a Training Sales Advisor met Sue to discuss the learndirect online “Working in Care Induction Standards course”. This first meeting also included Eileen Hester who is the registered manager and Sue.Business Advice Direct explained the way the course worked and Eileen and Sue saw the benefits of utilising this opportunity, agreeing to put some key staff on the course which was delivered over a period of two days. Sue herself attended along with 5 other staff members.The benefits Sue saw in putting herself and the staff through the course were more effective time management and the cost associated with the time saved. Eileen found that instead of 1 day per week for six weeks for each member of staff the whole course was completed in two days. This represented a saving of 20 days!

5 members 1 day for six weeks = 30 days of training.
5 members 2 whole days = 10 days training.

Sue found the Business Advice Direct/learndirect approach effective and enjoyable. A combination of learning via a PC and specific written assignments, marked by a specialist/sector expert tutor, meant that Sue and her staff got a good all round learning experience keeping them and the company in line with care sector training requirements (staff have to do the Induction Standards training within their first 6 weeks which can be an enormous drain on the management of the care home).

Sue, who is now responsible for all staff training, and her other staff had successfully completed the course and Sue is now working on her NVQ Level 2 in Care.
