Springing into a new career

Posted on April 11th, 2007

Staff at Kettering learndirect, which is run by Business Advice Direct, are delighted that one of their learners has landed a plumb job.

Tutor Val Hehir explained that the female learner studied IT skills at the centre, enabling her to use a word processor and create spreadsheets and databases.

“We are delighted to learn that she has almost immediately landed a new job as co-ordinator of the Anti Coagulant Clinic at Kettering General Hospital,” said Val. “She had done administration before, but it had all been paper-based as she had no computing skills. She felt that following her course with us at Business Advice Direct Kettering that she had the confidence to apply for the post.”

And the learner has put her new skills to domestic use as well.

Val explained: “The lady lives on a farm and has used her new skills to create a database of more than 75 lambs that have recently been born!”

BAD has won the contract to deliver 12 learndirect centres across the country and nearly 1,500 learners have already benefited so far this year. BAD also delivers other e-learning solutions, Level 2 NVQ qualifications and traditional training courses. learndirect centres are funded by the Government via the University for Industry (UFI) and have to achieve strict Key Performance Indicators to ensure they provide a good standard of training.

Fiona Wright, Head of Funded Learning for BAD, said she was delighted to hear of this latest success for BAD.

“We have a lot of satisfied learners across the country,” she said, “and are always delighted when one of our learners achieves their targets and secures employment.”
