BAD Worcester ‘Highly Commended’

Worcester’s learndirect centre, which is delivered by Business Advice Direct, was recognised as an innovative centre with outstanding staff at the West Midlands regional finals of the prestigious learndirect Achievement Awards on Wednesday (27th June).
The centre at County House, St. Mary’s Road, was nominated in two categories – Most Innovative learndirect Centre Award and the learndirect Staff Award for staff and tutors who provide outstanding customer care and/or tutor support for their learners – and received a Highly Commended certificate in both.
Tutor Nicky Wells was delighted to receive her certificate for her outstanding work with learners at the BAD Worcester Centre. (more…)
Swans dive into learning at Lincoln

Flooding in Lincolnshire has closed the local learndirect centre which is delivered by Business Advice Direct (BAD).
The centre is based in Oak House at Waterside South and has been closed since Monday after two rivers – the River Witham which runs 20 feet from the front of the building and a further river which is behind the building – both burst their banks.
Staff from BAD Lincoln have been unable to get into work but tutor Dave Grasham made the journey down to discover the worst and found emergency services still hard at work pumping water out of the area. (more…)
Motorbike and rider nearly swept away in the storms

Being swept along a road by tidal floods while riding a motorbike is not everyone’s usual journey home but for Mark Wilson of Sheffield’s learndirect centre, it was all in a day’s work.
Mark, who lives in Matlock, bikes into work every day to the centre which is delivered by Business Advice Direct (BAD) – but his return journey on Monday evening this week ended up being a feat of courage and skill in which he narrowly avoided disaster.
Mark, aged 40, said that when he left work many roads in Sheffield were closed by flooding but he managed to leave the town without difficulty. (more…)
Praise for Sheffield learning centre staff member

Julia Hewitt was Highly Commended in the Yorkshire and Humberside learndirect Learning Centre Staff Awards last week.
Julia works at Sheffield’s learndirect centre and the certificate recognises her hard work in providing outstanding customer care and support for learners.
The Sheffield centre is delivered by Business Advice Direct (BAD) which operates learndirect centres across the country.
Julia was thrilled to have been nominated and even happier to have received a certificate! She told BBC Look North presenter Ian White how much she loved her job and working for BAD and how she was inspired by all the learners. (more…)
Derby student’s award triumph

A Derby man has scooped the prestigious Progressive Learner of the Year title in the learndirect Achievement Awards for the East Midlands region.
Christopher Wilson studied at the Derby learndirect centre operated by Business Advice Direct (BAD) to improve his job prospects after being made redundant from a building site – and ended up working for a firm of solicitors!
Following his success, Chris will go on to represent BAD in the national finals at The Globe Theatre in London on 15th October. (more…)
Sisters reunited!

A young Derby woman has found her long lost sister thanks to Business Advice Direct (BAD)!
Georgina Roughan is studying for her European Computer Driving Licence at the learndirect centre in Derby, which is delivered by BAD, and recently a fellow student took her to the canteen at lunchtime.
“I knew I had a sister called Lauren but I had never met her,” said 22-year-old Georgina. “The other student had a suspicion that she was working in the canteen and took me in and it really was her! I am completely shocked but so happy! My head is all over the place!” (more…)
