Thriving Northern Moor learning centre

Posted on July 24th, 2007

Graham and RichardBusiness Advice Direct (BAD), the Stockport-based company which provides learndirect centres across the country, has won plaudits for its revitalization of the centre at Northern Moor.

Graham Whitehead, Regional Performance Director of UFI, the organisation behind learndirect, was impressed by the enthusiastic and positive response he received from BAD when looking for a learndirect service provider to deliver into Northern Moor, which is a deprived area of Manchester.

“Community leaders had identified a need for the service and a potential venue was available but needed considerable investment to bring it up to an acceptable standard,” he said. “In a very short time funding budget had been made available and BAD was given a contract to open a learning centre in the church hall.”

He continued: “UFI was very pleased with the speed with which the operation opened and pressure from community leaders was vindicated when business started to accelerate, matched by unceasing commitment from BAD.

“The centre is now a key part of the Manchester learndirect network, contributing to the regeneration of the community of South Manchester and to national skills priorities.”

And BAD is delighted that its contracts to provide learndirect at Northern Moor has been renewed.

BAD Managing Director Richard Hallam said:”We are very pleased that we have been acknowledged as providing a positive and beneficial service at Northern Moor, and delighted that our contracts have been renewed.”

Paul Goggins, MP for Wythenshawe and Sale East, has shown a keen interest in learndirect delivery in his constituency and BAD is working with other local learndirect providers to keep him fully briefed on the impact they are making to life chances of adults in the local community.

BAD Head of Funded Learning Fiona Wright commented: “I am thrilled at the success of Northern Moor where the staff work hard to provide essential learning to local people who are looking for work. The strength of BAD is the quality of its tutors so I am not surprised that the Northern Moor Centre is proving a great success, with credit due to the dedicated tutors we have in place.”
