Healthy outlook for Kettering student

Planning a career in the NHS is Kettering student Anthony Furniss who has recently completed an ITQ at his local learndirect centre.
Anthony was presented with his certificate by tutor Adam Rowthorn, at the Kettering centre which is provided by Business Advice Direct.
Anthony joined the centre in January to study basic skills and after achieving literacy and numeracy at Level 2 went on to study for the European Computer Driving Licence which he completed in July.
And he got on so well at BAD Kettering that he joined the staff as a volunteer in August!
He said: “I have really enjoyed working with the staff at BAD Kettering. It is friendly here and I can easily ask the staff for advice. They have given me the confidence to apply for jobs I wouldn’t have considered six months ago.”
Tutor Val Hehir said: “We thought it would be a great idea to give him some quality work experience - and Tony has grown in confidence. He has become an excellent team member, greeting and helping learners. Because he is so patient with the learners we’ve suggested he would be suited to an advisory role, or an administration role in a care/sensitive environment, and he feels this would interest him. Now he is waiting to hear about job applications he has sent to Kettering General Hospital and we are keeping our fingers crossed for him. He will be a great employee and it is very rewarding to have watched him acquire skills and develop while he has been here.”
Head of Funded Learning Fiona Wright said: “We are all delighted with Tony’s progress and look forward to him starting a new career thanks to the skills he has acquired at BAD Kettering.
