I knew that the NVQ, which is nationally recognised, would help me apply for another job.’ (more…)

Injured worker retrains at Sheffield centre
Posted on April 8th, 2008
Despite a serious injury at work which left him unable to retain his job, 55 year old widow Michael Deeley was determined not to sit at home and feel sorry for himself.
He made his way to BAD Sheffield where he enjoyed Literacy courses so much that he stayed on at the centre to learn IT as well.
‘I was working at a tile centre until 15 kilos of tiles fell on my leg from 4’ height,’ said Michael. ‘I have been off work on disability since and will not be able to return to that job. Sitting at home I felt I was stagnating and really wanted to do something and I knew that probably the best way for me to get back into work would be to gain some sort of IT qualifications. It is essential to be able to use a computer these days. Previously I’ve never had to use computers – I was a landlord before working at the tile centre – so I thought it was about time I learned!’ (more…)
