No more TV!

Mohammed Zarepour ran his own takeaway until he developed heart problems and was forced to sell his business.
Unemployed since August 2005, Mohammed was recommended by a friend to go to BAD Newton Heath to gain the CSCS card –and he hasn’t looked back since!
‘I went along for the CSCS card because every time I applied for a job on a building site they required that I have it – but I didn’t realise the centre offered IT courses as well,’ said Mohammed who had barely used a computer before attending the centre.
Now he has completed a number of IT courses and hopes to take the ECDL. He has also taken the food hygiene course, because although he had taken it before the qualification expires after three years.
‘For about 20 years I have not done anything!’ said Mohammed. ‘I finished college with HND in Building Construction and then through laziness and stupidity I proceeded to forget things like spelling and punctuation! I decided I had been wasting time staying in the house and watching TV! I felt I wanted to learn more and hopefully now that I have I will be able to find a job. It will certainly be easier to find work now that I am familiar with computers. I was a computer illiterate when I started attending the centre!’
And Mohammed is enjoying his learning so much that he attends the centre every day.
‘The staff have been great. They are really helpful and very kind,’ he said. ‘Every time I need assistance they help me straight away. They are very friendly and I am very grateful to them. I have found it very worthwhile going along to the centre and I am really enjoying it.’
