Wake up call for Mark

For unemployed Mark Clancy, attending BAD Luton was a real wake up call and made him realise exactly what prospective employers require and just what skills are needed to find work.

Aged 37, Mark used to work as a warehouse and maintenance man – but when he lost his lift to work, Mark was unable to get another job.

Unemployed since March last year he went along to BAD Luton to gain the CSCS card and find work on a building site – but having gained the card he realised that it would be a good idea to gain extra qualifications as well.

‘Having the CSCS card doesn’t guarantee that you will get a job and I felt extra qualifications would give me more options,’ said Mark. ‘Now I have achieved L2 in Literacy and Numeracy and I am thinking about taking the ECDL because the more I can get under my belt the more options I will have.’

Mark is sure attending the centre has opened doors for him to find work and added: ‘’I feel the training is really helping me to gain a better future for myself. Going to the centre has woken me up to what companies want today and what you have to do nowadays. It’s not as easy to get a job now as it used to be when you could just walk in on a referral. It’s definitely been very worthwhile going to the centre and the tutor was so helpful. She even makes a follow up phone calls for me after I have been to job interviews.’
