learndirect was set up in the year 2000 with the simple aim of helping adults to improve their maths, English and IT skills.
The government recognized that if British industries and companies could employ skilled people, business would boom. This would help Britain to grow, competing effectively with other countries around the world.
The results have been impressive. Since the year 2000, learndirect has helped more than three million people to gain new qualifications.
The brand made a good impact on the public, too, with some adverts voiced by David Tennant and others featuring comical gremlins. These made sure people knew where to turn when they needed help to improve their skills.
In 2011, learndirect was purchased by LDC part of the Lloyds TSB banking group. learndirect is now a private company, but it continues to offer the same services.
Indeed, the range of services offered by learndirect may now increase. After the sale took place, Joanne Milner, Investment Director at LDC, said the company had a “clear strategy for growth” and that they hoped to provide a “far greater pool of potential learners and businesses” with a “much broader range of services”.
Business Advice Direct have been working with learndirect for over a decade, and we are looking forward to continuing to work with learndirect, offering the skills training that is vital to the success of the economy.
